Dr. Oberleitner received his B.A. in Psychology (minor in instrumental music; percussion) from the University of Toledo and received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology (Social) from Wayne State University. At the University of Bridgeport, David is the Chair of the Department of Psychology and Program Director for the online psychology degree program, is a faculty advisor to numerous psychology majors, and teaches courses for the honor's program. He is also a co-chair of the University IRB and a member of the UB Undergraduate Counsel for Research and Scholarship. His research interests fall broadly under the umbrella of social-cognition. His primary research interest is in the social-cognitive processes underlying social exclusion (ostracism) and the consequences of experiencing social exclusion/isolation. Specifically, he is interested in the interplay of social exclusion/social isolation with pain and physical/mental health, the ramifications of social exclusion on one's self-concept, and how social isolation impacts collegiate success and positive adjustment in college students.
